A real wood floor lasts for decades if it is laid properly, and causes problems for years if it is not. Most issues with wood floors, such as gaps, cupping, squeaks and lifting boards, come down to the subfloor, moisture or the wrong fitting method rather than the timber itself. That is why we spend as much time checking and preparing the subfloor as we do laying the boards.
PRM Carpentry supplies and fits engineered and solid wood flooring across Hampshire, including Southampton, Winchester, Eastleigh and Chandler's Ford. We lay floors by floating, gluing or secret nailing, depending on the subfloor and the product, and we fit herringbone and chevron patterns as well as straight plank floors. We also restore original floorboards in older homes, which are common across the county's Victorian and Edwardian housing.
Choosing between engineered and solid wood is the first big decision. Engineered boards are more stable and usually the better choice over underfloor heating or concrete, while solid boards can be sanded more times over their life. We finish every floor properly, with matching thresholds, scribed edges and skirting or beading so the floor looks like it belongs in the room. If you are also having new skirting fitted, our second fix carpentry service can be done at the same time.

Is engineered or solid wood flooring better?
It depends on the room. Engineered boards are more stable and usually better over underfloor heating, concrete or in rooms with changing humidity. Solid boards can be sanded more times. Our comparison guide explains both.
Can you lay wood flooring over underfloor heating?
Yes, with the right product and method. Engineered boards are normally recommended, and the heating needs commissioning and running in before the floor goes down.
How long does it take to fit a wood floor?
A typical room can often be laid in a day or two once the subfloor is ready. Larger areas, patterns such as herringbone and subfloor repairs add time.
Do you restore original floorboards?

Do you supply the flooring?
We can supply flooring as part of the quote or fit flooring you have already bought. We will check it is suitable for the room and subfloor before fitting.
